BE A MITZVAH

Do a Mitzvah This Chanukah

In our tradition, we call Chanukah the miracle of lights. Each night, after we light each candle in our menorahs, we take part in another tradition; we give and get gifts.

This year COVID and the economic downturn has meant not everyone will get gifts.

That’s why it’s a perfect time to take our Chanukah traditions both “on the road” and online and give a gift to someone who isn’t on your list.

Here's how to do one, two, or three!

The Rhoda Bloom Kosher Food Pantry

Make a donation of food to the Rhoda Bloom Kosher Food Pantry. There are families in Rockland County who are struggling to put food on the dinner table. Let’s make it a little easier for them with a donation of tuna, peanut butter, nourishing soups, beans, oatmeal, and pasta. All kosher, please.

To bring your donation of food to RJFS, please see directions below. Or if you prefer to shop online at Amazon, Amazon will deliver it.

The Rockland County Animal Shelter

Make a donation of cat food to the Rockland County Animal Shelter. When families suffer during economic downturns or family upheaval, it’s often animals who suffer, too. Let’s keep our four-legged friends happy and well-fed during the holiday season. While the shelter won’t turn down a donation of dog food, it can really use an influx of food for its felines.

To bring your donation of  cat food to RJFS, please see directions below. Or if you prefer to shop online at Amazon, Amazon will deliver it.

The Center for Safety & Change

You can also make a donation of personal items to the Center for Safety and Change. Many of their clients, victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes, need the basics when they seek shelter, which is why such items as robes and slippers, as well as toiletries are on the list.

To bring your donation of personal items for the Center, please see directions below. Or, if you prefer to shop online at Amazon, Amazon will deliver it.

Drop off  site

All food and pet food can be dropped off Rockland Jewish Family Service, 450 W. Nyack Rd. in W. Nyack, during the week of Chanukah, December 10-18.

Or you can shop anytime online at Amazon.
